I've just received a coding notice for 14-15 which should be for an Aviva pension. Everything on the letter seems reasonable: my name and details are correct, the employer's tax reference is correct and yet the employer's name is given as AK Macefield.
And Mr. Macefield is a nice gentleman, I was the third person to telephone him and he hadn't lost his sense of humour, yet. And he does appear to be the only AK Macefield and does figure very well in searches for AK Macefield. There didn't appear to be much logic, he's in Stroud, the other two who contacted him were in Brighton, I'm in west Wales. As I pointed out to him I wonder how many others have his name and haven't telephoned him.
I did speak to the revenue and they assured me it was just an administrative error and a correction would be issued - I could hear the person I spoke to be talked to by someone else in the background but I couldn't hear what was being said but I did wonder.
If it is only the employer's name that they have gotten wrong it is perhaps not that serious but it does suggest that there is something just a bit awry with some database or other.
