XML COBOL Interface
by Redvers at 12:27 07/01/02 (Seminar>Consultant)
If you want to connect your COBOL applications to the XML world simply and efficiently, the Redvers COBOL/XML Interface is the ideal choice. The product itself is written in pure COBOL II and requires merely the coding of a COBOL record layout and a CALL statement to generate, or read, well-formed XML documents.
The interface comprises of two subroutines RCCOBXML and RCXMLCOB which write and read XML respectively. The COBOL record layout is used by the client calling applications as well as both subroutines to provide consistent encoding and decoding.

Features include:
· COBOL II source code to add to your programme library
· No special compile/link considerations
· Runs on any standard COBOL platform
· Professional, fully functional and intuitive
· No training required for COBOL programmers
· Handles files, fields and tags of any size and format
· Document Type Definition (DTD) generated if desired
· Batch and On-line versions available

The fact that these programmes are sold in source format provides flexibility in variables that would normally be fixed. For example, the program-id and external file names can be changed to comply to site standards; the output record length and format can be set to values compatible with external applications.

The generated well-formed XML standalone document conforms to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0 (Second Edition) definition.
