South West Water are currently preparing to migrate their Customer System from the ICL mainframe onto a bespoke package from Rapid Systems Ltd
To date approximately 20+ programs and sub-routines, file handlers have been written to download data into CSV files for upload onto the new package.

The main task on the e-payables banking project was to automate a General Ledger postings procedure.

On the clients books clawback entries had to be made to reflect the differences between the actual and estimated book amounts for each invoice (The difference in currency movements between when an order was placed & when the invoice was paid). On GE Capitals shared services ledger entries had to be made to debit invoice amounts from the client, credit & debit the relevant currency clearing accounts, initiate funding payments between clearing accounts and account for any currency movements with balancing entries.

'T-account' reports were produced to show the net effect on each account.

Worked on the Tyco GEARBOX project. This was an automated cross-company ordering system. It allowed for the real time raising of orders on the buying site, automatically generate the inter-co purchase order, send it to the supply site and book automatically into the receiving sales system.

Initially worked to produce management print reports in COBOL and Easytrieve that were downloaded via Monarch into Excel. There the data was merged with data from other sources to produced a statistical analysis of the banking executives performance - complete with graphs, etc.

Also wrote and amended on-line and batch transactions in the banks main enquiry system - OSCER - that encompassed the full range of banking activities from client requests, through disbursement and releasing of funds to cheque production or credit transfer.

Nov 1997 - Nov 1999 HYDER

Pos. Analyst / Programmer 4 x sixth month Contracts.
Worked on HCS(E) Electricity system, initially working on Accounts receivable (ARC) process. My responsibilities included:-

1) The analysis of input from 14 tapes (Tokens, Midland Bank, DHSS, Post Office, etc) then wrote specifications for 14 suites of programs to allocate financial activity to a customer account or allocate to suspense. All suites allocated activity via one central process and then reported on errors / warnings and produced a proof list. Consulted with the appropriate team’s business representatives to produce High Level Design & Physical Design documents.
2) Leading and mentoring a team of 6 programmers to code and unit test and finally link test each suite before passing to system test and user acceptance test. I was also responsible for writing and testing some application suites myself.
3) Writing multiple interface programs between IDMS DB and GUI front end (VB and sequel 7 server Unix box) to extract and update data for customer services (HCS(E)) system. The back end processing was all COBOL and maintained on IDMS Data Base.
4) Performing maintenance for all general problems reported from system test

Aug. 1995 - Nov 1997 LOGICA PLC

Worked on Colossus Project based at BT, Cardiff. The project objective was to speed up the clearing of over 1000 faults on the main Customer Services System (CSS). This system is the largest IDMS database in Europe.

Had some exposure to RAD methodologies. Ran separate project doing same task for Marketing system. Eventually took over maintenance and development control of Cashless (Phone Chargecard system) adding new functionality to the existing system as well as rationalising some existing functionality.
