"A composite company is a group of individuals (about a dozen or so ‘operatives’) who spread the cost of operating as a limited company. As a Gabem operative, you also avoid the legal and administrative workload – because Gabem sets up and manages the company. Operatives don’t normally know each other – you are selected and grouped into companies by Gabem. We pay each person according to the hours they have worked, calculate expenses and tax liabilities, pay dividends if appropriate and deduct a small weekly management fee (currently £22 net of VAT). This is only paid when you’re earning – not when you’re between contracts or on holiday."
