lower pension claims through dividends?

i read that whilst receiving dividend payments instead of a full salary this would trigger a much lower payout when it comes to claiming pensions.

is this correct? and has anyone got "real world" figures or a suitable equation as to how to calculate the exact amount of pension claims. --
