'People' skills need to grow businesses

A key skill in building a successful business is people management, according to an article in the New Statesman.
It considers the role of someone starting a new business who has to learn to do everything for themselves, after possibly having been sheltered from many tasks by integral support units in a large corporate organisation.

However, if the business is to expand a wider range of skills and experience are required - often those lacking in people who have a 'maverick entrepreneurial spirit'.

A successful entrepreneur who set up a PR agency argued: "Most entrepreneurs are mavericks. They find working for people difficult but, for the business to grow, they will quickly have to learn how to work with people. If you can't manage people, you'll never be much more than a freelancer."
