Two old friends return with new venture
by Susie Hughes at 11:18 14/03/11 (News from Partners)
Two of the best known specialist accountants for contractors and freelance professionals – Barry Roback and Victor Stanton – have set up a new ‘boutique’ company, Privilege Accounts. Privilege will focus on providing a high quality, individualised tax and accountancy service aimed at the mid to high end of the limited company market.
Twenty years ago, they created JSA, probably the first and certainly one of the largest specialist accountancy practices to provide purely limited company accounting services to self-employed contractors and freelance professionals. They built the business to a sizeable service group and then handed over operations to new management, which enabled both of them to exit the business.

Privilege Accounts
They have now set up Privilege Accounts, in anticipation of changes to the industry by the introduction of the Agency Workers Regulations, and the expected upsurge in popularity for the use of limited companies.

Barry Roback
Headquartered in premises in Elstree, Hertfordshire, along with an office in Central London, Barry Roback says that this new venture is intended to bridge a gap in the market for freelancers who do not want to be part of a production line. Barry said: “We are offering an old fashioned personal service - but with a modern twist.

“With our directors' combined experience of over 40 years specialising in the freelance professional market, we completely understand the needs, worries and expectations of freelance professionals. In that period we have worked with literally tens of thousands of freelancers. Our specialist experience is well known and, we believe, much respected in the freelance market. There is nothing contractors can face that we have not successfully dealt with before, from advice as to how best to enter the market, through to dealing with all the tax, legal and other issues that can and do affect the way freelancers work."

Barry will be well-known to readers of Shout99 as a regular contributor and panellist on 'Ask An Expert', a role to which he has recently returned.

Individuals
Privilege Accounts only acts for individuals who are in business on their own account and require a professional and cost effective solution to their business needs. It has been formed with a view to using Barry and Victors’ knowledge and experience to provide the best service to freelance consultants and high-end professionals.

Victor Stanton said: “We are not a formulaic accounting service provider or simple bookkeeper, but instead we offer a highly professional business, accountancy and tax advisory service. We are very good at listening and communicating clearly and promptly.”

Privilege Accounts is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, is covered by their Practice Assurance Scheme and fully insured under the Institute's Professional Indemnity requirements. All client data is stored in the UK within a high-grade totally secure tier 4 cloud environment and is accessible by clients 24/7 anywhere where there is an internet connection.

Barry says that Privilege does not have a rigid ‘one size fits all’ approach to service clients. He said: “When we are approached by potential clients we give them a comprehensive fee quotation based on the level of support they require. What's more, if things remain much the same in year two, we guarantee not to increase our fees during their second year as clients.”

In conclusion, Victor said: “We are proud that as part of our commitment to the community, Privilege Accounts has pledged a minimum of 2.5 per cent of its annual profits to cancer related charities. We have been fortunate and enjoyed many rewarding years in this challenging freelance industry, and now it is time to give something back.”
