Newsletter 434: Taxman gets tough amid concerns at proposed new powers
by Newsletter Editor at 10:15 23/05/14 ( Shout99 Newsletter)
In Shout99:.....Separate reports show the taxman is getting tough - as the use of bailiffs doubles in two years and the number of investigations double, with particular emphasis on the self-employed, where the reported increase is four-fold. There is also evidence that there is also a question mark over VAT penalties where half are found to be incorrect.
And all this adds to the concerns of many, including the accountancy profession and the influential Treasury Committee, that there are insufficient safeguards to give HMRC the proposed powers to take monies owed directly from individual's bank accounts.
