Managing director, Derek Kelly, of specialist contractor services group, Optionis said: “News of reforms designed to speed up infrastructure projects will be music to the ears of those working in construction and civil engineering – sectors that have long been frustrated by planning delays.
“Meanwhile, a new North Sea super agency tasked with ‘maximising economic recovery’ from the area’s oil and gas reserves has the potential to create additional work opportunities for contractors and freelancers working in the industry.
“Allowing fracking firms to run shale gas pipelines deep under private land without getting prior permission may be highly controversial, but it would aid the development of a fledgling industry that has the potential to create thousands of UK jobs. As such, I believe the government is right to propose the change.
“Meanwhile, moves to simplify the collection of NICs for the self-employed are welcome, as they would cut administration and make life easier for self-employed professionals.”
