Newsletter 435: Queen's Speech | Clampdown on Friday-to-Monday | Contract reviews
by Newsletter Editor at 10:15 10/06/14 ( Shout99 Newsletter)
In Shout99:.....The Queen's Speech set out the proposed legislative programme for the year leading up to the next General Election. One of the items of interest to freelancers will be the intention to introduce a Small Business Enterprise and Employment Bill.
One of the main items is a further clampdown on the so-called Friday to Monday scenario - the original target of the IR35 legislation more than a decade ago. This time, they are looking to prevent highly paid civil servants picking up lucrative redundancy packages...and then returning to the same sort of position as a freelancer.

Also in the Queen's Speech the proposals to step up big infrastructure programmes should provide a welcome boost to engineering contractors.
