IR591 Seminars: Post-Budget (updated)
by Susie Hughes at 12:43 18/02/04 (News on IR591)
Shout99 and freelancer tax specialists Qdos Consulting are plannning a series of seminars to explain what IR591 means to freelancers and how you can plan ahead. These will be held in the weeks after the Budget when the Chancellor is expected to announce the details of the new tax on small businesses.
At the moment, no-one knows what the Treasury has planned to 'ensure small businesses pay the right amount of tax' - and it is not expected that details will emerge before March 17, although speculation and concern has been rife in the small business community that this will be the latest 'stealth tax' on freelancers.

The round-the-country seminars will be tailored specifically for freelancers and their accountants and advisors and what steps you should take in the short and longer term. Specialists will explain the issue, what it means for freelancers - and will be available to take questions. Other subjects of relevance to freelancers will also be covered.

The seminars are being planned during the 'window' between the Budget (when we will know the details) and the start of the next tax year - which will give freelancers and small businesses the information and the time they need to act to minimise their exposure.

Speakers will include experts from Qdos Consulting who have won more IR35 cases against the Revenue than any other organisation and have already saved freelancers £6 million.

We hope to arrange seminars at venues and times to suit freelancers. So it would be helpful if you could indicate here or email me, if you would be interested in attending. The costs is likely to be in the region of £55 (comprehensive delegate packs will be available). We are considering running one in each venue starting at about 5pm. The provisional venues and dates are:

  • March 23 - Aberdeen
  • March 24 - Penrith
  • March 25 - Leeds or Manchester

  • March 30 - London (central or Heathrow)
  • March 31 - Reading
  • April 1 - Bristol

  • w/c April 5 also Midlands (Leicester)

Further details will be available shortly. In the meantime, any feedback would help with our planning: susie@shout99.com
