Newsletter 204: Revenue wins landmark Section 660 case
by Newsletter Editor at 10:10 30/09/04 ( Shout99 Newsletter)
The Inland Revenue has won the landmark Section 660 case at the
Special Commissioners. This is a huge blow to hundreds of thousands
of small businesses which are owned by husbands and wives or close
The case, involving Arctic Systems, was seen as the first real test of the Revenue's approach to the so-called 'married couple's business tax' and the Revenue's victory could now lead to more investigations and huge tax bills for other couples.

Shout99 has followed the Section 660 issue in detail. For news about this latest development and what it means for small businesses and freelancers, click on:

Shout99 also has a free downloadable briefing document on Section 660 and online decision tree to see if you might be affected. See the Section 660 information area:

Protection against Section 660

Protection against Section 660 challenges by the Revenue is included in Shout99's Freelancers Outside IR35, which also covers IR35 and other tax and VAT issues

Freelancers and small businesses can purchase FO35 for 104.50 for a year's cover. The manual includes information on how to minimise your Section 660 exposure. If the Revenue challenges your Section 660 position, Qdos Consulting would represent you in your dealings with the Revenue. It also provides insurance against penalties. It also covers you for earlier years.
