In the first 48 hours of the proposal appearing on the ‘Speakers Corner’ part of the site, contractors had responded to Downing Street’s offer to ‘Have your Say’ and signed up to the motion which theoretically goes straight to the heart of the Prime Minister’s website.
A contractor, username Tex OVoider, posted the following on the site on Friday (October 27) afternoon.
Register here: Vote of no Confidence in the PMG!
By means of blatant lies and deceit HM Treasury Paymaster General, Dawn Primarolo, has successfully enabled IR35 to become highly dubious and unreasonable tax legislation. As part of this process, Dawn Primarolo, has demonstrated arrogant pig-headed stubborness by ignoring IR35 contra advice from the following :
1. ICAEW (Tax Faculty award of ZERO out of ten against tenet of "fair and reasonable taxation")
2. ACCA
3. AEEU
4. Professional Contractors Group (PCG)
5. Institute of Directors
6. CBI
7. Federation of Small Businesses (FSB)
8. MPs (mostly Conservative but some New Labour too)
9. The Press (Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard etc)
10. Thousands of letters from constituents
11. Tens of thousands of small businesses in the 'knowledge based sector'
12. >3250 posts to this website
13. 287+ ex-pat-preneurs in the new brain drain trickle!
AND now even most likely, despite the successful application for Judicial Review....EUROPEAN LAW !
For crimes against UK plc I hereby register my VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE in Dawn Primarolo as Paymaster General
Word spread among the contracting community and within a few days a clear message had been sent to Downing Street in what could prove to be the largest single issue thread in the IR35 section which has consistently proved the one of the most active of all subjects on the Downing Street site.
