A survey by freelancer trade group, the PCG, found that over half of respondents spend less than £500 per year keeping their skillset up to date with more than 40 per cent spending no money at all.
Of those who do plan to invest financially in their skillset only nine per cent spend more than £2,500 a year.
The PCG said: "This appears to indicate that although clients are on the lookout for ever more skilled contractors, freelancers are staying ahead of the game and still providing the sought after skills without breaking the bank."
