Child Support Agency and IR35
by Susie Hughes at 09:23 04/10/12 (Letters from Freelancers)
A freelancer has told Shout99 about an interesting conversation he had with the Child Support Agency which makes him think they were digging deeper into his financial arrangements than it appeared on the surface.
I have reproduced his comments here anonymously as a 'Letter':

"I have been in recent deliberations with the Child Support Agency. During a telephone conversation this morning I was asked about my job to which I replied self employed consultant and investor.

"I was then asked about how I worked and what I did. Did I work through an agency? Did I have a limited company? How long were my contracts? Who were they for? I know enough about IR35 to be able to dodge these questions, however I was suprised at them as I would expect them from a tax inspector.

"It would appear that HMRC may well be using the CSA to trawl for IR35 'targets'.

This is not the only case I have heard of like this. Has anyone else had similar experiences - or is it just a co-incidence?
