Patent and trade mark advice for start-ups
by Susie Hughes at 09:24 08/03/13 (News on Business)
Small and early-stage businesses are being offered free help and advice about how to benefit from the intellectual property system.
Patent attorneys and trade mark attorneys are running clinics, to help young businesses and entrepreneurs get started on the road to commercial success.

Small businesses can get a free 30-minute consultation on their intellectual property (IP) assets – patents, trade marks, designs and copyright – at a series of free clinics in London.

The clinics are all run by qualified patent or trade mark attorneys who will help entrepreneurs to identify what IP assets they may have and how they can be protected. They will also advise on the best next steps to take.

2013 clinics
Patents: every Tuesday evening at the IPO office in Victoria (London).
Trade marks and designs: once a month at the IPO office in Victoria (London).

Details of how to apply for a free place are on the websites:

  • Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (trade marks): www.itma.org.uk
  • Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys: www.cipa.org.uk
