Some very nervous people approached me to communicat with their accountinga nd taxation advisors who put them into a BMST scheme. this scheme charged them 12% of their income for operating the scheme and they were told they woudl have no tax liability. they received confirmation regularly that the scheme had counsels approval.
HMRC now challenging the legitimacy of the scheme and offering opportunity to settle if they respond by end November. Accountant continues to act for the contractors but is offering no advice other than to "contact HMRC yourselves and reach agreement". Seems like they are trying to absolve themselves of responsibility on this. What should course of action be? legal or otherwise?
Accountant is Ltd Co and has no institute mentioned.
