The Inland Revenue has won the landmark Section 660 case at the
Special Commissioners. This is a huge blow to hundreds of thousands
of small businesses which are owned by husbands and wives or close
partners.
The case, involving Arctic Systems, was seen as the first real test of the Revenue's approach to the so-called 'married couple's business tax' and the Revenue's victory could now lead to more investigations and huge tax bills for other couples.
