SMEs want straightforward tax and late payment support
by Susie Hughes at 11:26 10/03/15 (News on Business)
Top of the small firms wishlist for the Budget 2015 are more straight-forward tax and late payment support.
A survey by YouGov and serviced office providers, Flexioffices asked small businesses what they wanted to see from Budget 2015. The results – ranked in order of demand point firmly towards a number of key issues for the Government to address.

1. Further Corporation Tax relief for small businesses and start-ups
Twenty per cent of senior decision makers in small firms would like to see Corporation Tax breaks for small businesses. The majority of these respondents were from businesses with turnover of under £1 million. This matches anecdotal commentary from survey respondents who suggested they’d like to see a complete abolishment of business rates for companies with annual turnover under £800,000.

2. More straightforward tax
Nineteen per cent of respondents – with the highest number of these working at the coalface of the issue in finance and accounting – would like to see HMRC tackle the issue of tax returns.

3. Late payments support
Eleven per cent of respondents want more support for small businesses by enforcing stronger penalties for late payments, especially payment tardiness from large organisations. The highest numbers of these respondents were from North-West England.

Paul Slinn, MD of Flexioffices, said: “We deal with thousands of small businesses every year and regularly see the impact of Government decisions on overall business success. In my opinion, the survey results show a demand from small business decision makers for a more level playing field – one where SMEs get the support they need to prosper and compete with larger organisations".

Budget
Chancellor George Osborne will deliver his last Budget of the Parliament on Wednesday, March 18, less than two months before the date of the general election.
