Benefits of supply teaching draws permanent staff
by Susie Hughes at 12:46 15/04/15 (News on Business)
A new found confidence in supply teaching is luring a growing number of professionals away from permanent roles and towards embracing a portfolio career, according to umbrella employment providers, giant group.
The latest analysis of its contractor database has indicated that perceptions of job security among supply teachers have increased by four per cnet over the last year. In the same time period, the percentage of supply teachers willing to consider taking a permanent role has dipped by seven per cent.

Career option
This demonstrates how non-permanent employment is on the rise within the education sector, and is becoming increasingly attractive.

Matthew Brown, Managing Director of giant group, said: “The boom in demand for supply teachers reflects trends we have seen of increased employment activity in a variety of other sectors within the contractor market. However, this particular increase is interesting as it may suggest that the education sector is embracing the benefits of hiring those with a portfolio of experience, and that supply teaching itself could be maturing as a career option.

"With an ever-widening set of demands that people face outside of work, and the increased likelihood of having to care for elderly relatives as well as children, many supply teachers are benefitting from the flexibility this career can facilitate.

“It is undeniable that supply teaching not only offers the opportunity to greatly expand your teaching skillset, but also that it is a viable alternative for those looking to embrace a flexible working routine.”
