Leeds Utd: Bates in trouble with HMRC
by minn at 13:41 28/06/07 (The Clubhouse)
Good ol' Ken. He can always be relied upon to cause a stir.

Now, you will have read in the papers etc. that Leeds owes £35m to various creditors, including £7m to HMRC. The deal that Ken is trying to put together would see the creditors (including HMRC) receive 1% of that £35m.

Of course, HMRC wants its pound of flesh (or should that be SEVEN MILLION POUNDS of flesh). An insider has told The Daily Thatcherite Telegraph: "We are furious at the raw deal we have got out of this debacle. We are getting a penny in the pound for £7 million of public money which should be used to pay for hospitals and schools and other important public services."

Now I may of course be mistaken, but wasn't that the line HMG spun when initially witholding support for the London Olympics bid?

And does anyone else recognse the "voice of Dawn" in this statement?
Pete

"Most people go to work and the most they will ever get is 'Morning, how are you?' When I go to work, the lights go down, and before I've even played a note, this bloody roar goes up. I am being adored. Nobody in their right mind would turn around and say 'Nah, I've had enough of that.' " (Rick Parfitt)
