If you use HMRC Free tools and online forms to handle your PAYE and end of year reporting, readers might like to consider downloading Basic PAYE Tools NOW in the next TWO WEEKS before February 2013, even if you have NEVER used the Basic PAYE Tools before.
I did some trawling …
The Employers Bulletin Sep 12 issue 42 stated “You will no longer be able to use our PAYE Online service to submit End-of-Year and in-year forms to HMRC” (top right on page 21). Of course, this may only mean end of year returns due for the tax year 2013-14 and not those for 2012-13.
The “Using Basic PAYE Tools to complete 2012-13 end-of-year tasks”, a PDF download at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/tools/bpt2013.pdf, also stated “As Basic PAYE Tools users will start reporting PAYE information in real time in April 2013, the process in February 2013 will be different” and “The February 2013 update will only allow you to complete and submit the 2012-2013 Employer Annual Return (P35 and P14s) ….”
As a belt’s and Braces measure to ensure no snags in reporting end of year returns for year 2012-13, if you download the Basic PAYE Tools in Jan 13 before the Feb 13 update, then you can catch the update in Feb 13 to report if the PAYE Online service submit End-of-Year returns for 2012-13 facility does disappear. I know I did!
As you may know, Basic PAYE Tools is a free to use and free to download set of tools for PAYE and reporting available on HMRCs website (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/tools/basic-paye-tools.htm ). It is distinct from the PAYE Online service, an online web based site (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/file-or-pay/fileonline/index.htm ).
Do the experts think the PAYE Online service facility to submit End-of-Year 2012-13 returns could completely disappear ?
