Month 1 Tax Code
by benkeylock at 11:18 18/10/17 (Ask-Legal-Accounting)
"Month 1" Tax Code set in October
So far, I have not worked through my PSC in tax year 17/18, have not drawn a salary (reflected in a series of "zero" RTI returns), and have no other sources of earned income.

I am about to start a new contract, through my PSC, and will start drawing a salary from October (month 7).

I have just completed my 16/17 self assessment. This showed a very small underpayment, <£10, which has been added to my 17/18 tax code.

In issuing my new Tax Code HMRC have also put me on Wk1/Mnth1 status. This seems inequitable because I have 6 months worth of unused free pay for 17/18 from which I can not benefit whilst on Wk1/Mnth1. Presumably not until I complete my 17/18 return and claim a tax refund, sme time next year.

Is there anything that I can do, to rectify this sleight of hand by HMRC ?
