Tony Goodwin wins Entrepreneur of the Year 2014
sbenzina [Letters from Freelancers] 07:30 30/09/14 | Comments: 5
24th of September hundreds gathered to LondonlovesExcellence Awards held at London Marriott Hotel on Grosvenor Square.   That night was a celebration of excellence and growth in business and proved that even during difficult times, businesses can succeed. The standard was astonishingly high this year and in many categories the esteemed judges had trouble picking a winner but, as always, in each category there was one who stood out.

What is an Umbrella for?
Wilberforce [Letters from Freelancers] 11:27 02/06/14 | Comments: 14
I hope I will be forgiven for trying to push this subject into a wider audience. However, I wonder how many other 'freelancers' agree that a vehicle, primarily used to facilitate contracting, should be regarded as an employer in the fuller sense.

It's a shame that I can't respond in the same thread as Barry Roback's reply to my original post. But to answer Barry's points:
Security Clearance
kingfisher3 [Letters from Freelancers] 11:16 12/02/14 | Comments: 26
Security Clearance is still discriminating as agents refuse to put you forward for work. I thought this was addressed?
Do you work for AK Macefield ?
graham5 [Letters from Freelancers] 14:45 03/02/14 | Comments: 1
Another HMR&C problem...it seems that they have issued a number of coding notices for 14-15 with Mr. Macefield's name as employer when he isn't.
Limited company low earnings
mikejac [Letters from Freelancers] 15:12 13/01/14 | Comments: 2
Limited company not earning enough to cover running expenses.
When I Contract, I pay MORE tax
jacksjpt [Letters from Freelancers] 12:18 20/12/13 | Comments: 7
I've seen endless amounts of "expertise" being reported by all these experts. How come none of them have pointed out that when I contract through my business, even if I took the "only pay personal allowance as salary and the rest as divis" tax efficient route, that my business still pays significantly MORE tax - because the VAT my business charges is not reclaimable by my financial services customers!
